I recently saw this blog post from Eventbrite
with the idea of changing FOMO (Fear of missing out) into GOMO (Going out more often). I thought this was a great idea, as it is something that I have told myself I will start doing.
This came at a perfect time considering we’re getting into Summer, so the weather is perfect for going out and experiencing things that you may not have done.
I agreed to go on a holiday with two of my friends, which may a little dramatic on the scale of things, considering I’ll be out of the country for a week, but it’s an experience, and definitely something that I would be gutted to miss out on, so I agreed to go.
A huge part of this is mobile phones, as once we’re out we tend to be glued to social media, as approximately 56% of social media users have experienced FOMO, as it is incredibly easy to see what everybody else is doing and wish you were there to. So maybe it’s time to put the phone down for an hour or two and experience first hand what is going on around us.
In order to aid you with this, I have thought of some ideas to help that shouldn’t cost the earth.
Try New Restaurants
There are a bunch of new restaurants that have opened near me, and I think I’ve only tried three of them. As it is all to easy to go to a familiar place where you have the same thing instead of trying new places, so finding a new place to eat may be a step in the right direction of getting out more.
Go To The Park
Whether it’s a local park or travelling to somewhere similar. You could even pack a picnic and make a day of it. These days are brilliant when the weathers nice.
Go For a Walk
If you’re struggling for money going for a walk is a simple way of getting outside and even getting some exercise in the process.
Organise a Holiday
Going back to my example, and yes this may seem a little extreme, but it doesn’t have to be. It could be as simple as a day trip or a weekend away. I’m looking forward to having a week off work and being able to relax in the sun.
Whether it’s a big music festival or a local one, these are the perfect way to spend the day, especially if it is for something you enjoy, and the best memories are often made at places like these.
We get a lot of fairs coming around into the area, and they don’t cost a lot of money, so if you are a fan of rides this might be the right thing for you. These things are often open until late, so you can spend the day, and make some great memories.
Sometimes all you need to do is gather a group of friends and go sit in the beer garden with some drinks and you’ll have a great time. This seems like a simple idea, but it’s something that a lot of people tend to do, as it doesn’t cost a lot (depending on how much you have to drink), and it’s a great way to socialise.
Get Ice Cream
Everybody likes ice cream, right? This can also link in with another suggestion, as a lot of places have an ice cream van waiting or somewhere that sells it, so it makes perfect sense to stop and have a break with some ice cream.
Create Your Own Event
If you have your own ideas you could always set up your own event! You can use Eventbrite which will allow you to do this, and you will also be able to promote the event online, send invitations, track ticket sales or RSVP’s
. They also offer support which comes in handy if you’re struggling with any aspect of it.
I really want to start getting out more this summer and I hop this list has given you some ideas and the motivation to get out there and start doing more.
How are you planning on getting out more?
