How to Use Pinterest to Increase Blog Views

It seems like everyone is talking about Pinterest, but it is very hit and miss. I’ve seen people claiming it’s bringing thousands of views to their blog and others are struggling to get off the ground. It is hard to grow, but Pinterest is less about your followers, as you don’t need millions to succeed.

In all fairness I’m not a Pinterest expert. At the time of writing I have 205.5k Monthly Unique Viewers and Pinterest tends to be my highest traffic source. In this post I’m just going to go through what I do in order to increase that number. I’m not promising that this is going to work miracles, but it might be worth a shot.

Use It

This one might seem like common sense, but I’ve found that the more time pinning pays off. I find myself scrolling through Pinterest quite a lot and pinning different images to my boards. If I have a spare few minutes, I’ll always have a scroll and a pin and that’ll be throughout the day. It doesn’t need to be for hours. If you struggle with having time to use it then you can use Tailwind to get a queue set up that posts throughout the day for you. I’ve not taken to it, but I’ve seen a lot of people recommend it saying it works for them.

Upload Your Content

Every time I publish a blog post, I upload the photos linked back to the post. This is the easiest way to get your content out there, and it’s easy to get to the post. I leave the title as the blog post title, as Pinterest works as a search engine, so it’s best to not get too complicated. For the description I use a few keywords of what’s in the photo, or what the blog post is about.

Group Boards

Group boards are what got my account started. I used to have a girly/ pink theme and from that I got invited to a few group boards which I joined and slipped a few of my own pictures in there that got started to get clicks. There are a lot of group boards out there, but I think they’re all invite only. I got my invites from Twitter, if someone tweeted saying they were making a group board I’d politely ask to join. It’s a brilliant way of finding new bloggers and a way of getting your content out there. You can always make you own and invite a lot of other people to it.

In one of my group boards there are 2,403 followers, so that’s a lot of extra people seeing the content.

Pin to Multiple Boards

As well as repinning your content to the group boards add it to your existing boards that are relevant. I have a board dedicated to my blog and Instagram content, and every once in a while I’ll repin to my Beauty board or other relevant board. I tend to notice an increase on the interaction whenever I do this, as the picture will come up at the top of your feed and your followers feed again.

Keep Board Names Simple

A while ago it seemed like there was a trend to put spaces in between the letters on board titles. I did it and my monthly views slowly decreased and got lower and lower. It may have looked pretty, but it’s not practical for a search engine. Board names are best to be simple, and I’ve kept to key words and one word where possible.

Fill Out Your Profile

By this I mean your ‘About Me’ section. I’ve filled mine with keywords that people are likely to search for, this just helps your profile to show up in searches which is never a bad thing. I’ve only included relevant ones that explain what my blog is about and what people can expect from my pins. It’s all about explaining your content.

Business Account

First of all it’s free and easy to do, so it’s definitely worth it. From a business account you get access to rich pins, which help a lot. This means when you upload a pin it’ll fill out the title. You can also pay for Ad’s which I’ve not done, but it’s another way to get your content out there. Considering I’ve put this last, it’s probably the most important. If there’s one thing you take away from this post, it’s this.

Well I think thats everything! I hope this post has been helpful to you in someway.

Great post! I’m a bit obsessed with Pinterest and can easily fall down a long pinning hole sometimes! It’s just so addictive.

I’m also a fan of Tailwind as find scheduling pins to post at “optimal” times seems to work. I definitely notice a drop in Pinterest views when I get lazy about it…

Off to check out your page now. Here’s mine if you fancy checking it out – xx

Yeah it can be very easy to fall into the pinning all the time mindset haha! It’s a great platform. That’s a good point, scheduling can help a lot, but not posting seems to decrease really quickly. Thank you xx

I just got a business account a couple days ago. I haven’t ordered my Pinterest in a while. Do you make use of board sections? I think I cut my main boards down by half but I don’t know if that’s a good thing for views. My blog covers are also landscape which makes them tiny on Pinterest.

    • luxuryblush says:

I hope it helps you, I think a business account is so helpful! With the board sections, I tend to pick the most suitable one. I’m not too sure if the amount of boards makes a difference or not. I just have boards for what I want if that makes sense xx

  16. Very useful info! Can’t really get my timing right for pinning in Pinterest but if it makes such a difference I guess i’ll have to start ASAP!

I have been trying to use Pinterest more and more, and I actually really like it, I feel like it sets itself apart from Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat because it is not constantly changing and stays true to itself (hopefully I haven’t jinxed it). Great tips, these are really helpful Hannah, will definitely be switching my account to a Business one now, thanks for sharing, hope you are having a great start to the year! Xx
