The Drugstore Holy Grail for Dry Hair? My John Frieda Frizz Ease Review

John Frieda Frizz Ease Review

Everything is this post has been gifted, but all opinions are my own.

The Archive Update

I first published this review back in 2017 after being kindly gifted these items to test out. Fast forward to today, and John Frieda has recently undergone a massive global brand relaunch. It has sleek new packaging and upgraded vegan formulas.

Because Frizz Ease is such an iconic drugstore staple, I wanted to keep my original, honest review live. Let’s see exactly how the formula performed on my high maintenance, colour treated hair.

I absolutely love trying out new haircare routines. So you can only imagine my excitement when the team at John Frieda reached out to see if I wanted to try some goodies from their legendary Frizz Ease line!

I received two bottles of the Forever Smooth Shampoo and a bottle of their famous Extra Strength 6 Effects Serum. If your hair is naturally prone to frizz, flyaways, or dehydration, this might just be the exact collection you’ve been looking for.

Let’s jump straight into my honest John Frieda Frizz Ease review!

The Packaging

First things first: this range has some of the prettiest packaging on the high street. I am completely obsessed with the vibrant, deep purple color theme.

  • The Shampoo: It comes in a sleek squeeze tube that stand upside down on their flat lids. I absolutely love packaging designed like this because it means the product is always sitting right by the cap. You never have to stand in the shower aggressively shaking the bottle just to get the last drops out!

  • The Serum: This comes in a clear bottle featuring a handy pump dispenser at the top. The clear tube is great because you can easily see exactly how much product you have left, and the pump makes it incredibly easy to control your portions so you don’t accidentally use too much.

The Shampoo

John Frieda Frizz Ease Review shampoo

To give you a bit of context, I have colour treated hair that tangles incredibly easily. Because it’s naturally quite dry, it isn’t the easiest thing in the world to manage or style. While I’ve noticed slight improvements with other shampoo combos in the past, nothing has ever been truly groundbreaking.

However, since introducing this into my routine, my hair has become so much easier to handle. That might not sound like a massive deal to some, but my hair is usually an absolute nightmare to brush through after a wash, and I notice a night and day difference when I use these.

The formula contains pure coconut oil, which is one of my absolute favourite ingredients for deep hair hydration. It feels extremely nourishing, and I can genuinely feel the softness returning to my strands. Crucially, it doesn’t strip away or fade my hair dye at all, which is a massive bonus since so many clarifying drugstore products can ruin fresh colour. My hair looks significantly glossier, shinier, and healthier than it did before.

Extra Strength 6 Effects Serum

I have really gotten into the habit of using this serum every single time I wash my hair.

My Application Tip: Before squeezing the excess water out of your hair with a towel, apply just one pump of this serum into your palms, rub your hands together, and run it evenly through the mid lengths and ends of your wet hair.

A little goes a very long way with this formula. It has done wonders for keeping my unruly ends manageable and sleek. I can also imagine this being an absolute lifesaver to pack in your suitcase for summer holidays. The formula is specifically designed to repel humidity from the air, and we all know how much dry hair tends to poof up the second it hits warm, tropical weather.

The Overall Verdict

Overall, if you are currently struggling with frizz, tangles, or seasonal dryness, the John Frieda Frizz Ease range is well worth looking into. It made a real, noticeable difference to the daily texture of my hair, making it look better, feel softer, and behave itself during styling!

I used to use a frizz ease spray on wet hair every time I washed it when I was like 17, I swore by it. But now looking back I don’t really know if it did much haha! I need to try it again! Great post xx

Current mood: Sitting by a pool in Greece sipping a freddo cappuccino😍

Actual reality: Staring at my kettle in the UK wishing it could do magic tricks😭

Is it actually worth investing in a proper coffee machine? And more importantly, which one should I get?

I actually only like iced coffee, so I’m not sure if a machine is for me, but there’s got to be a way… right?😭😂

Real talk family dinner review!🤍 (Gifted/ invite) Real talk family dinner review!🤍
(Gifted/ invite)

We treated the kids to a meal out at weathervanemeirpark this weekend, and the family vibes were lovely. One of the biggest wins was that the staff brought over colouring pages and crayons for both kids without us even having to ask. Which is a lifesaver with two toddlers🥵

Noah and Ella were completely won over by the food. Noah cleared his plate of sausage, chips, and beans, and Ella was living her best life with pasta, corn on the cob, and chips (a toddler dream combo, let’s be real😂)

As for the adults, Jake loved The Big Melt burger. I ordered the Katsu Curry Feast, and we did have a little hiccup where my chicken looked a little pink, but I always judge a place by how they handle mistakes. The staff were absolutely brilliant, replaced it immediately, and even brought over a complimentary drink to apologise. Great customer service honestly makes all the difference.🫶🏻

It’s a super welcoming, stress free spot if you’re looking for somewhere to take the kids this weekend.

Swipe to the very end to see Ella making sure no ice cream got left behind😂

Yesterday we headed to Drayton Manor for the first time, and we absolutely loved it! 🚂

The highlights:

🎢 We managed to hit all the rides we wanted.

⏱️ Queue times were super manageable—the longest we waited was 30 minutes, which is the absolute limit with a 1 and 3-year-old! 😂

🥵 It was too hot to make it to the zoo this time, but with animal-loving toddlers, we will definitely be back to check it out. 🐯
