The Archive Check: A Tribute to a Discontinued Icon
I’ve not worn much makeup lately, as I’ve spent most of this month ill, which has definitely not been fun. But looking back at my December favourites, I just had to share my love for a product that completely changed my mind about matte lips. The Huda Beauty Liquid Matte in the shade Girlfriend. Huda has since reformulated her lip line, leaving some original colours behind. Let’s dive into the review of my most missed Huda Beauty Liquid Matte discontinued shades.
It seems like absolutely everybody raves over Huda lip products, and to be completely honest, I finally see why. The original formula was nothing short of amazing.
Girlfriend was released as part of the highly coveted Nude Love Collection, retailing for £18 on Cult Beauty. While it is a little expensive for a single liquid lipstick, you are absolutely paying for the luxury quality here.
If you’ve been reminiscing about this formula or hunting for details on its performance, here are my thoughts.
The Formula & Comfort
Traditional matte liquid lipsticks aren’t normally my thing. As I tend to find them drying, tight, and uncomfortable on my lips. This formula, however, completely changed the game.
The texture is remarkably thin and lightweight, but because it is so intensely pigmented, it applies flawlessly and opaquely in a single swipe. This means you only ever need a tiny amount of product to get full coverage, saving you from ending up with heavy, crusty layers that crack throughout the day. Instead, it feels velvety and completely weightless.
The Lasting Power
The longevity of this lipstick is incredible. I’ve worn it out to full meals and it stayed completely put, hardly fading at all by the end of the night. While it probably could have done with a tiny touch up right in the centre of the lips after eating, it was nothing drastic or messy. It wears down beautifully without flaking off.
The Packaging
Can we talk about how gorgeous the packaging is? The frosted glass tube feels heavy, luxurious, and high end. Even the outer boxes were incredibly clever. Featuring a pair of lips on the front printed in the exact lipstick shade inside, making it so easy to pick out the right colour in your makeup drawer.
The Colour: Girlfriend
On the Huda website, Girlfriend is officially described as a nude with gorgeous, warm apricot hues.
Because my skin is so naturally pale, the terracotta and peach tones do show up quite a bit darker and more dramatic on me than they do on other people. However, even against a fair complexion, it still looks lovely and serves as a stunning, warm-toned statement nude.

The Final Verdict
Overall, this is a truly spectacular lipstick, and the formula easily ranks as one of my all time favourites. It is always bittersweet when brands reformulate and create a list of Huda Beauty Liquid Matte discontinued shades, but Girlfriend will always hold a special place in my. heart for being the one liquid matte that actually cared about comfort.

I love these liquid lipsticks, I have the Nude Love Mini set and it’s so gorgeous! I have to say this is my least favourite shade out of the four in the set though but I think that’s just because it comes out quite dark brown toned on me and I’m just not used to that type of shade! Fab post! I love a good liquid lip, especially if the formula is not too heavy and is really pigmented, so much comfier than the ones that need a couple of layers to get the desired effect! Will have to give one of these a go! xo, Naomi

I am really on trying out the huda liquid lipsticks! I’m not very crazy about liquid lipsticks but i have heard many liquid lipstick haters have been converted by these ones so I definitely want to pick up one of the mini sets.

Not tried Huda before but definitely heard a lot about them. Like you, I don’t always like matte as I find they can sometimes be quite drying. This one sounds great though and love the colour.

I haven’t tried it but one of my friends wears them quite a bit and they look gorgeous on her! The formula does look great 🙂 I actually had the same thing with one of the Colourpop liquid lipsticks where it comes up much deeper on me and looks more like a brown than berry, and I’m more on the medium side so maybe it’s just one of those things haha xx
