I may have spoken about perfume a few times on my blog, but describing scents never gets any easier. So prepare yourself for my awkward take on one of my favourite perfumes. I’d say spoiler alert, but if you’ve been around for a while then you’ll know Libre is one of my all time favourite scents. Perfumes normally last me a good few years, but I got through my first bottle of this in eight months. As I just couldn’t bring myself to reach for anything else.
Even though I’ve spoken about this perfume a lot over the years, I’ve never dedicated a post to it. Which is why we’re here, it’s finally time to put words on the screen and post an in-depth review.

What Made Me Purchase this Perfume?
I had been on the hunt for a new scent for a while, but I had no idea where to start. There are so many different options out there, so going into a store can be quite overwhelming. In 2019 I began to see this perfume everywhere. It felt like I couldn’t scroll Instagram without seeing it pop up again and again. Each time it always got rave reviews, and I was intrigued. YSL perfumes have a special place in my heart, as Black Opium was my go to back in the day. YSL Libre was becoming the perfume to have, and I was intrigued.
The Packaging
Packaging may not be the most important thing when it comes to a perfume, but it sure does draw me in. The Libre bottle is beautiful. It’s simple, but the embellished logo takes it to the next level. It’s one to put out on display, as it’s eye catching and simply gorgeous.
The Scent
Libre is one of the stronger scents in my collection, as after one or two sprays the pay off is incredible. I also find that the scent lasts and doesn’t need topping up every few hours. Before we get into the scent, let’s get the notes out of the way;
Top Notes: Lavender, Mandarin Orange, Black Currant, Petitgran.
Middle Notes: Lavender, Orange Blossom, Jasmine.
Base Notes: Vanilla, Musk, Cedar Ambergris.
I’ll admit that I was a little worried when I saw the notes, as do you know what scent I’m not a fan of? Lavender. So seeing it in there twice threw me off a little. However I don’t get the lavender at all. When it’s first applied I get the orange and jasmine, and then as it settles the vanilla and musk start to come through.
When I Use It
A lot of perfumes fit into a certain category, and aren’t really suited to year round wear. For example I only reach for tropical scents in the summer. There’s just something about smelling like a coconut in the Winter, that doesn’t sit right with me. However, I use Libre day to day, and all year round. I reach for it in the morning, but I reach for it in the evening all the same. It’s one of the reasons why I get through it so quickly.
Final Thoughts
If you’re after a new scent then I would 100% recommend this one. It’s such a beautiful and classic scent that is suitable for any occasion. So if you find yourself in the perfume aisle, make sure you give this one a try.

Oh my gosh, YSL Libre is one of my favorite perfumes too!! I have the regular Libre and Intense – I love them both. I can’t get enough of them and I totally agree, the packaging is absolutely gorgeous and the scent lasts forever!! xx

I’ve never tried Libre, or any perfumes by YSL. Reading this post has made me really want to try it! Especially as it’s a scent that can be worn all year round. Problem is, I have so many different perfumes already, I should probably use them up before buying another one!

I haven’t tried any perfumes from YSL, but I am intrigued by Libre now! I am a fan of fruity, floral scents, so I should test it out when I can!

I use this perfume and it is one of my best perfume. I always get compliments when I wear this perfume. You should try Marc Jacobs Perfect Intense it is one of my favorite perfume you would love it.

I absolutely adore Libre too! It’s one of the few perfumes that I can wear year-round and never tire of. You captured the scent beautifully – the initial burst of citrus and jasmine followed by the warm vanilla and musk is just heavenly.
I’m curious, have you tried any of the Libre flankers? I’ve been eyeing the Libre Intense version, but I’m not sure if it’ll be as universally wearable as the original.
