Dodging the Discontinued Bullet
Over the years, there have been countless beauty releases that I have come incredibly close to purchasing. My debit card was practically in my hand, but for one reason or another, the purchase just didn’t happen… and let’s just say I am feeling incredibly glad about that hesitation now!
Looking back at my old wish lists, I realised something wild: four out of the five items on this list have since been completely discontinued.
This is the makeup I almost bought, but I’m so glad I didn’t!
Charlotte Tilbury | Airbrush Flawless Foundation

The Verdict: I’ll readily admit that as soon as I saw the packaging of this foundation, I was completely sold. Look at it, it’s stunning!
Luckily, I forced myself to wait for the initial wave of reviews before jumping in, and that’s when the warnings started rolling in: it is notoriously unforgiving on dry skin. Considering my complexion can rival the Sahara Desert at times, I knew this heavy matte formula wouldn’t work for me. I would have had to make a massive, calculated effort to prep my skin just to make it sit right, and honestly, who has the time for that?
Natasha Denona | Bronze Cheek Palette
Discontinued

The Reality Check: DISCONTINUED. I honestly have no idea why I even considered buying this face palette in the first place! Looking at the colour story now, I can clearly tell that only one of the shades would have worked for me. I am far too pale for this deep colour story, so I can’t believe it was ever on my radar at all.
Anastasia Beverly Hills | Sunset Palette
Discontinued

The Reality Check: DISCONTINUED. The moment I saw promo photos for the Sunset colour story, I fell in love. Well, apart from that one stark blue shade. It was that single blue pan that completely put me off buying it, as I knew deep down it would sit there entirely untouched. If it had been a stunning highlighting shade instead, this palette would 100% be sitting in my collection right now.
Coloured Raine | Queen of Hearts Palette
Discontinued

The Reality Check: DISCONTINUED. Wow, I really, really wanted this palette back in the day! I really don’t enjoy using heavy red or rich berry tones on my eyes, meaning I only would have gotten real use out of about four shades in the entire layout. Since the brand has sadly closed its doors entirely, I’m glad I didn’t invest.
Huda Beauty | Mercury Retrograde Palette
Discontinued

The Reality Check: DISCONTINUED. This is another product where I look back and genuinely can’t believe I came so close to buying it. It is pretty much a collection of pastel and lilac shades that I simply do not use, all packaged into one place! If I had bought it, it would currently be cluttering up the back of my drawer or sitting in a declutter pile. While it is undeniably gorgeous to look at, it was never going to be practical for my everyday routine.
Final Thoughts
Sometimes your gut instinct is completely right. Next time you feel intense FOMO over a hyped beauty launch, remember that it might just be a passing phase… or completely gone from the shelves in a few years anyway!
Let’s chat in the comments!
Is there an expensive makeup product you came incredibly close to buying that you’re now relieved you skipped? Have you ever dodged a discontinued bullet too?
Thank you for reading!

It’s always so much better to take time to consider a purchase, I often feel like buying things on a whim and regretting them. lol

It really is! Especially with the price of makeup nowadays xx
So I was gifted the CT airbrush foundation as a free gift when I purchased a load of other makeup and I’m SO glad I didn’t pay for it, you’re right it’s absolutely rubbish on dry skin! I’m going to try her new foundation that’s just been launched instead! I think I always want to have some colourful palettes and want to branch out but my problem is I just never end up using them, I still reach for my neutral tones so I think I’ll just forever buy more and more neutral palettes! xx
It’s good that you were able to get it as a free gift! Yeah, I’ve just ordered that one and have high hopes for it. Surely she can’t release two foundations for oily skin back to back haha. I used to do exactly the same, so now I stick to neutrals too as I know they’ll get used xx
I used to be terrible and buy things on a whim without even thinking about whether I needed them or whether they would suit me. But since I started my minimalism journey, I think a lot harder before I make any purchases. I’m glad you thought about these items before buying things that wouldn’t work for you!
I definitely used to be terrible for doing that as well. I’m glad you managed to get out of that mindset. Thank you xx
So many great items!
Danielle
haha I’m glad you like them xx
I haven’t tried any of CT’s foundations. But I have really dry skin, so I’m glad for your honest review on that one. x

I’m not speaking from experience, but from what I’ve heard it is not at all good for dry skin xx
This is such an interesting post, I never really consider products I was close to buying and reflect on why i could never take the plunge. A lot of the time it just comes down too money and not wanting to splurge unless i’m 100%!

I am so glad you think so! I thought it was a fun idea to look back, and I really enjoyed picking out the products. That’s always such a huge factor, especially with how pricey makeup is nowadays xx
Such a fun post! My mum has the CT foundation and it was awful even on my oilier skin, not a fan! xx

So glad you think so! Oh that’s so strange! Sorry to hear you didn’t like it xx
I absolutely hated the Airbrush foundation! It aged me so much & my hairdresser actually asked me if I was ill when I was wearing it! lol! x

It is really fun to think bak on these things. Most recently for me was the Patrick Ta blush palette that came out for the holidays. The shades were too bright and I have hoards of blushes.
Most recently for me was the Muse Palette from Vieve. I love the eyeshadow palette, but I have all of those shades in other eyeshadow palettes I own already, so it would’ve just duped a load of shades I already own. I agree with you on the Charlotte Tilbury foundation. I’ve heard pretty rubbish things about it tbh
