A Nostalgic Trip Down the Makeup Aisle
Looking back at my beauty favourites from April 2015 is like stepping into a completely different era of the high street. Re-evaluating this list over a decade later is a bittersweet look at the vintage beauty favourites that defined my morning routine.
April has always been a great month, for beauty lovers. The winter coats finally get tucked away, the spring sunshine makes an appearance, and we naturally start switching up our heavy makeup for brighter tones, fresh skin finishes, and effortless cream shadows.
When I put this specific favourites list together, I had just ventured out of my comfort zone to try some highly raved-about high street products, and they worked out brilliantly.
From an iconic foundation that claimed to improve your skin to the cream shadow that started a global obsession, let’s take a trip down memory lane and look at my top vintage beauty favourites from April 2015.
Maybelline | Colour Sensational 168 Petal Pink
Discontinued
I originally decided to swatch this lipstick for the blog because the bullet itself looked completely different on camera than it did in real life.
Back then, this vibrant pink was totally out of my comfort zone, but I found myself really enjoying wearing it out. It was the absolute perfect shade for spring because it added a beautiful pop of color without looking too in-your-face. The formula glided on easily and had a gorgeous, creamy finish. While it honestly didn’t last very long on the lips, it was incredibly comfortable to wear. It’s such a shame this pretty pastel pink is no longer around.
Maybelline | Super Stay Better Skin Foundation
Even back in 2015, I was a little skeptical about the skincare claims of this foundation, but I had to admit that the finish on the skin was beautiful. It was an incredibly forgiving formula that never felt drying and never highlighted a single dry patch. It offered a stunning medium to full coverage that covered my facial redness beautifully, and to top it all off, it never looked heavy.
Maybelline | Colour Tattoo On and On Bronze
Before April 2015, I had actually never tried a cream eyeshadow before. But after hearing what felt like the entire beauty community rave about the Colour Tattoos, I finally cracked and picked up On and On Bronze. It was an absolutely magnificent golden bronze shade. Not only did it make the most perfect, bulletproof eyeshadow base to layer powder shadows on top of, but it looked simply beautiful worn all on its own for an effortless, everyday look. It lasted all day without creasing, and its discontinuation felt like the end of an era.
Maybelline | Lash Sensational
It didn’t take me long to see exactly why everyone was raving about this mascara. It was, and still is, absolutely brilliant. I predicted back then that it would become a permanent staple in my makeup collection, and it certainly lived up to the hype. The unique curved wand made my lashes look significantly longer and fuller without clumping them together at all.
Rimmel | Scandal Eyes Precision Micro Waterproof Eyeliner
This favourite actually came about purely by accident. When my absolute holy grail Soap & Glory Supercat liner was out of stock at the drugstore, I had to grab an alternative, and I ended up settling on this micro pen from Rimmel. I had tried it once in the past, and picking it up again instantly reminded me why I used to love it so much. The ultra-fine felt tip made it incredibly easy to apply a precise wing, and the waterproof formula ensured it lasted all day without smudging.
The Reflection
Looking back at this snapshot of April 2015 reminds me just how cyclical the beauty world is. While it’s tragic that three of my absolute favourite Maybelline gems have since been discontinued, looking back at these vintage beauty favourites proves that a genuinely great formula never truly loses its charm.
