Checking in on my 2020 Beauty Favourites
Looking back at my archives from a few years ago, my monthly roundups were heavily focused on exploring my makeup drawers. Today, my blog has evolved into a space dedicated to slow living, home nesting, and mindful consumer choices. Consequently, looking back at this classic July favourites list offers a perfect opportunity to see which holy grails stood the test of time, and which products taught me important lessons about shopping my stash.
Let’s face it: the beauty industry moves fast. There is always a new viral product, making it incredibly easy to get caught up in a cycle of constant buying. But some of the most satisfying moments in a beauty routine happen when you step away from the shopping basket and actually use what you already own.
July was a rare month where I actually ended up wearing makeup quite a lot. Instead of buying anything new, I spent the month cycling through my collection to rediscover old gems.
Looking back at these six products today is an eye opener, mostly because four of them have since been completely discontinued. Here is an honest look at how these favourites have stood the test of time, and what they taught me about building mindful beauty habits.
Too Faced | Sweet Peach Palette
Discontinued

Earlier that year, I was actually on the verge of decluttering this palette because it was just sitting in my drawer gathering dust. I decided to give it one last chance, and I’m so glad I did. I ended up reaching for it every single time I did my makeup.
The shades are incredibly pigmented, and it still holds that strong, nostalgic peach scent. My absolute go-to daytime look was blending Georgia and Puree into the crease, with Luscious swept across the lid.
Anastasia Beverly Hills | Sugar Glow Kit
Discontinued

I used to mention ABH glow kits in almost every single blog post back in the day. I loved mixing the shades Marshmallow, Butterscotch, and Starburst together. It sounds like an odd combination, but the shades balanced each other out beautifully on the skin. They are intensely pigmented, so if you love a bright, blinding highlight, this was the ultimate palette.
Benefit | Hoola Bronzer
I always pull this classic out in the summer or when I’ve fake tanned, as it is a little too dark for my usual pale skin. It is a brilliant, reliable matte medium brown with warm undertones to instantly shape and warm up the face. I really enjoyed using it, and it quickly became one of my all time favourites. After what felt like an absolute eternity of daily use, I finally hit silver pan on this during July.
Too Faced | Sweethearts Bronzer
Discontinued

This is a product I owned for a long time because I really only gravitated toward it in the peak of summer. It has a beautiful shimmer running through it, that looks incredible in the sunlight. The pan features two different tones that you can swirl together. The formula is so pigmented that a little goes a long way, it felt like I would never make a dent in it.
Fenty | Fu$$y Gloss Bomb
I wore this gloss every single time I put on makeup. Fussy is a shimmering dusty pink, but it applies as a very wearable, sheer pinky shimmer. The scent is incredibly sweet (which I love, though it might be a bit strong for some). The formula is completely non-sticky and gives the most perfect, juicy finish to the lips.
ColourPop | Super Shock Shadow in Peekaboo
Discontinued

I pulled this out of my drawer entirely on a whim and instantly fell back in love. Peekaboo was a metallic ivory with a subtle silver glitter running through it. It works beautifully as an eyeshadow topper. I loved popping it right over the top of Luscious from the Sweet Peach palette to add a gorgeous, soft wash of sparkle.
Revisiting this list reminds me that our beauty habits are a continuous journey. The fact that four out of these six products are no longer available to buy just shows how quickly trends move.
Instead of constantly chasing the next new release, there is so much joy to be found in using up what we have, hitting pan on our old favourites, and enjoying the products that already sit in our drawers.
Let’s chat in the comments!
Do you currently have any products in your makeup collection that you are desperately trying to hit pan on? Do you prefer a matte bronzer or a bit of summer shimmer?
Thank you for reading!

I’m totally with you on that one, summer is flying by. Oooh I’ll have to go over and check them out. It’s such a lovely shade, especially if you like a little bit of glitter. They have some really great products xx
I have the Revolution dupe of the Sweet Peach palette and it’s one of my go-to eyeshadow palettes (although I don’t wear eyeshadow much these days!) but it does have some gorgeous shades. I’m still yet to try anything from Fenty and I really need to change that. That lipgloss is actually on my wishlist and I’m really interested in her new skincare range too! I’m waiting for Caroline Hirons to talk about it first though to see if it’s actually worth my ££ haha x
