After struggling for blog content, I decided to go old school and do a tag; remember those? After creating my own, I realised that I really enjoy this style of post. So when I was on the hunt for a new one I discovered the Beauty Consumer Tag made by Nineties LoveChild.
As I’ve started to declutter and shop my stash a lot more this year, I thought this would be a great tag.
This is the Beauty Consumer Tag.
1. How Much Do You Spend on Makeup a Month? A Year?
I honestly don’t want to know. Saying that my spending has been a lot better in the last two years and I’ve barely bought anything. I tend to go most months without buying any new makeup nowadays.
2. Do You Ever Feel Guilty About How Much You Spend on Makeup?
Yes. It’s the main reason for my recent low/ no buy. I know that I’ve spent too much over the previous years and now I need to stop buying and use what I’ve got.
3. Do You Get FOMO Related to Makeup Releases?
Not anymore. I used to be terrible for it a few years ago. If I saw a lot of people posting a palette online then I felt like I had to have it too. An example of this is the Naked 3 palette, a part of me knew the pink tones wouldn’t work for me, but it just looked so good. Years later, and I barely touch it. It doesn’t bother me anymore, and I only purchase something if I know I’ll use it.
4. Do You purchase or Keep Items Simply Because They are Limited Edition?
This is something that I am terrible for. I love the MAC limited edition collections and I tend to collect something from each one. Which I know is bad, and it is something that I’m trying to work on.
5. Would You Be Willing to Pay More Money for a Sold Out Product Online?
No. This is something I have never done, and something that I will probably never do.
6. Do You Wish You Could Spend More? Or Less?
I’m happy with how much I spend on makeup at the moment. I’m buying products that I run out of and what I think I’ll use instead of everything.
7. Do You Feel Compelled to Buy Something When You See it in Someone Else’s Collection?
Yes, it used to be a lot worse than it is now, but it’s still a thing. I keep seeing the Kylie glosses popping up in flatlays on Instagram and if the brand wasn’t so hard to get a hold of in the UK I probably would have bought one by now.
8. Do You Buy More During the Holidays?
I I like to make most of my purchases during sales, so I probably do end up buying more in the holidays as it tends to be Sale season.
9. Have You Ever Hidden a Makeup Purchase From Family or Friends?
Nope. Whenever I get something new I always show my mum, as I get excited about it. Which sounds quite sad.
10. Do You Have More Than Ten Products in Your Collection That You Have Not Used in Over a Month?
Unfortunately yes. I only have one face and I don’t wear makeup everyday, so it can be hard to use everything.
11. Have You Ever Been Pressured to Purchase Something You Could not Afford or did Not Need?
No, I like to think that budgeting is one of my strong points and I’ve never spent more than I could afford.
12. Do You Purchase Makeup for Collector Reasons?
I mentioned this earlier with MAC limited edition collections, as I will admit that I have collected products from them. It’s a bad habit thats for sure.
13. In Your Makeup Journey Have you Become Less or More Consumeristic?
Definitely less. I barely buy anything anymore, and the products I do buy are ones I know I’m going to use and love which is a lot different to my approach a few years ago.
Well that was a little bit different. I’m not going to tag anybody specific, but if you would like to do the tag then feel free.
That was The Beauty Consumer Tag.
Do you like tag posts?
Thank you for reading!
I remember these good old tags! Oddly I’m someone who gets more into like “hyped” products than I do limited edition ones. I tend to not go for limited edition as then if I really like them and they’re gone forever it really frustrates me! xx

I wish they’d come back, they’re quite fun to do haha! I get what you mean, it’s a horrible feeling when you fall in love with a limited product, as you know you can’t get it again xx
This was a super interesting post! I love reading a good tag post. I found myself answering the questions in my own head as I was reading your own! It’s so true, I have definitely spend a lotttt less compared to other years. Not only that, but I’ve also used up a lot of product this year, since I haven’t purchased that much. I have probably saved hundreds of dollars compared to past years. It’s kind of embarrassing to think how much I used to spend. Great post han xxx

Thank you so much, I am so glad you think so! Me too, they’re fun! It definitely seems like a few people went through a phase of buying a lot and then slowly growing out of it later. Ah, that’s great! It’s such a good feeling to use a product up, as they take so long. Honestly, same haha! Thank you so much xx
It’s crazy how excited and proud I feel when I use something up, aha
Phew, I finally managed to catch up with some of your blog posts.
This is such a fun post! I had planned a makeup look for upcoming Sunday but I might not be able to do it on time, if I remember to change it up on time I might do this instead!
A lot of the “buying for FOMO purposes” I totally recognise with myself too. I’ve bought so many makeup items I ended up giving or throwing away because I don’t use them, just because something was limited edition or there was a big hype around it. I also had a period in time, I guess 3 or 4 years ago where people were all showing off their massive makeup collections, you would get influenced so much for buying new makeup. I’ve become better with it in recent years but I also think everything goes so quickly nowadays. If a youtuber talks about a new released eyeshadow palette one day, then the next video a couple of days later already talks about another new palette item and they make it sound like that previous one is old news, I can usually get myself to wait it out a little bit and see if there’s still such a fuss about it in a few weeks time. If not, it wouldn’t have been worth it, as I would only have bought it for the hype and to be able to share it on my blog/instagram. Which is something I used to do so much, just buying stuff to share on my socials. Ridiculous, now that I think of it!

Thank you so much, but don’t worry about it, I bet you’ve been so busy with your move! I am so glad you think it’s a fun post, I can’t wait to read your answers if you give it a go!
So glad it isn’t just me who got sucked into it. I definitely did the same too, as it can be hard to pass on a product that literally every man and their dog is raving about. Now that you mention it, I think that’s where a lot of us went wrong as it definitely felt like YouTubers were pushing the ‘bigger is better’ narrative. So glad to hear you’ve gotten better. I get what you mean though, ColourPop have a new collection every week, so keeping up and getting the next big thing is impossible now because it moves too fast. That is such a great way of looking at it! Haha yeah, I used to do that too! Thank you for reading xx
I think my spending habits have changed a lot – I know what I like, I don’t mind spending money on products that work – so more specifically skincare. I don’t buy products that I just know won’t suit me or I won’t wear just because they’re in. I think when you start blogging, you buy lots with the justification that it’s “for the blog” but that doesn’t last long! x
Beautylymin
So glad to hear that! Yes, I think that’s definitely the better way to look at it. That is so true, and I think it’s something probably all of us did at one point haha!xx
This was a fun read and it made me feel better about my own beauty shopping habits 🙂 Love tag posts but haven’t done one in ages. Happy holidays Hannah!
I am so glad you think so, and that is good to hear! They used to be so popular! Thank you, happy holidays xx
Loved reading your answers to this! I’m literally the exact opposite to you but I’m not a huge make up person. I wear it but only when I need to and I don’t buy it for the sake of it, only when I actually need something new. Which is good I guess because I can imagine the amount can REALLY add up!
Thank you, I am so glad to hear that! Ah no way, I guess we’re all so different and have different spending habits and preferences. That is a great way to be, especially as makeup prices seem to be going up and up xx
I love a good old school tag. I used to be guilty of having lots of products in my collection that I’d barely touched and yet still buy more. I think its a phase that so many of us have gone through at some point.
I hope they make a comeback, they’re a fun change to usual content. Yes, definitely agree it seems like a lot of us went through it haha xx
I love reading tags so much. It takes me back to 2013 and simpler times haha. I definitely spend way less on makeup now too but I do buy a lot during the holiday season because of all the gift shopping and limited holiday collections. I don’t need it but I like trying new products and they’re usually great value. I’m always sucked in by ‘good value’ haha

They’re so fun aren’t they?! Yes I definitely get what you mean, it is easier to spend more during the holidays as a lot of things get released and theres always a sale going on somewhere. It is very easy to get drawn in xx

This was a really interesting tag, something a bit different to the usual ones. I guess I don’t wear much make up but what I do, I buy again and again. My downfall is lipsticks, I just love a new shade. Although not so much this year due to wearing masks – a silver lining, I guess! x
I am so glad you think so! It’s interesting to take a look at spending habits rather than looking at collecting. I’m with you on that one! Haha, that is a good point xx
I love a good tag, never heard of this one before, its so fun. I used to obsessed with all things make-up but over the past 2 years I’ve completely fallen away from it, the most I buy now is mascara lol

They’re so good aren’t they?! I thought this was something a little bit different. It’s funny how tastes change isn’t it?xx
I loved reading the answers to your beauty questions Hannah, I’ve barely spent any money on makeup this year as I’ve barely had a need to wear it! x

Thank you so much! I’m with you on that one, this has definitely been a year of wearing less makeup haha xx
I haven’t seen this tag before. This was really interesting. Thank you for sharing.
Lauren
It’s definitely a different take on the makeup related tags. It’s no problem, thank you for stopping by xx
I loved reading this! My relationship with makeup has changed completely over the last few years – I used to be obsessed with the new makeup releases and now, I only buy the basics xx

I am so glad you think so! I feel you on that one, it definitely seems like a lot of people go through a phase of buying a lot of makeup xx
I love reading tag posts, and I relate to some of this so much. Not so much nowadays, but a couple of years back I would spend so much on makeup that I would hardly use just because I find buying makeup so exciting haha!
They’re so fun aren’t they?! Honestly same, I feel buying makeup for the sake of it is something we’ve all done at some point haha xx
This was such a lovely post! I have got to change the way I approach makeup and have a more use what I have over constantly trying new makeup. I think what gets me is I genuinely find it fun in testing out new makeup but I’ve got to change that approach and reign in my makeup spending.

Thank you so much, I am so glad you think so! It’s a great mindset to get into and it’s insane how much money you save. I know what you mean, trying new stuff is so fun, but sometimes when you have products in your collection you haven’t used for a while it kinda feels the same… sort of haha!xx
This was so fun to read. I’m like you, I honestly don’t want to know how much I spend on beauty products throughout the year lol
I am so glad you think so! Makeup has gotten so expensive that I’d prefer not to know haha!xx
I can sometimes feel so guilty for how much I spend on makeup, it is madness!

It’s crazy isn’t it?!xx
This was so interesting to read! I am definitely guilty of buying more than i need but I spend within my means too – its just not always a neccessity haha, I think after a couple of spendy months I am back on the straight and narrow though! xx

Thank you, I am so glad you think so! Yes, I know what you mean xx
I love tags & I’ll have to bookmark this one if I’m struggling with blog content in the coming months.
I don’t spend that much on makeup either & I really only buy makeup I’m running out of or I know I’ll get a lot of use out of it. I also buy them during sales like on Black Friay.
I used to get FOMO too, but not anymore!
