The Hype Check: Moving Past the Viral Trends
I originally picked up these products during a Boots makeup haul back in August 2021. Even back then, I was focusing on a mindful low buy, only picking up items to replace products I had completely finished!
Well, this is a bit of a throwback, isn’t it? Back in 2016 or so, my blog was practically 90% haul posts, and after a much needed shopping trip a few days back, I felt inspired to bring the format back for a special retrospective look.
When I originally put this list together, I was firmly on a makeup low buy, strictly purchasing products to replace things I had completely used up. In this specific case, I had just finished a foundation and desperately needed a slightly darker shade to match my summer tan.
Now that the initial testing phase is long gone, let’s revisit my August 2021 haul and see which items earned a permanent spot in my collection!
Revlon | Colorstay for Normal to Dry Skin
I walked into Boots with absolutely no idea what foundation formula to go for, but as soon as I saw the classic Revlon stand, I knew I wanted to give this cult favourite a try. At first, I was incredibly unsure of what shade to pick up, but after doing some quick emergency Google searches for swatches in the aisle, I settled on 150 Buff.
-
The Verdict: My all time favourite foundation! It delivers a beautiful medium-to-full coverage that, when paired with a good setting powder and spray, locks down and lasts all day long without clinging to dry patches. It’s a beautifully reliable high-street classic for dry skin types.
Maybelline | Fit Me Concealer
At the time of this haul, I only had one single concealer in my entire collection, and it was a little bit too light to wear whenever I had a bit of a tan. To fix this, I decided to repurchase an old favourite in a slightly darker shade: 05 Ivory.
-
The Verdict: Having loved the Fit Me formula plenty of times in the past, repurchasing it was a total no-brainer. It is lightweight, beautifully blendable, doesn’t cake under the eyes, and remains one of the best affordable concealers available at Boots.
Urban Decay | All Nighter Setting Spray

My current bottle of this was running dangerously low, so I made sure to grab a fresh backup bottle while it was on sale.
I have a full review, if you’d like to hear more.
-
The Verdict: This sits proudly at the top of my list of most repurchased makeup products of all time. I genuinely like to have a bottle of it in my collection at all times because there is simply no other setting spray on the market quite like it. It melts your powders together seamlessly, keeps your base in place through long days, and makes a massive difference to the longevity of your makeup.
Fenty | Pro Kiss’ R Luscious Lip Balm
Discontinued

This particular balm had been sitting on my wish list for a very long time, so I decided to treat myself. In the end, I picked up the shade Latte Lips, which was described as a gorgeous, sheer neutral pink.
-
The Verdict: While this was a lovely luxury treat at the time, Fenty Beauty has since retired this specific lip balm line to make room for their newer lip oils and gloss sticks. It was a beautiful formula while it lasted!
The Low-Buy Reflection
Revisiting an old Boots makeup haul is a fantastic reality check for anyone trying to shop more mindfully. When you look back at what you bought to fill a specific gap in your collection, like a tan-matching base or a holy grail setting spray replacement, it proves that a minimal, intentional collection is built on items that truly work for you, rather than fleeting viral trends.
Let’s chat in the comments!
Have you tried any of these classic base products? What are the ultimate holy grail items you always find yourself repurchasing on a trip to Boots?
Thank you for reading!

I love the All Nighter setting spray! I’ve used it for years and I still love it just as much as I did ten years ago. I haven’t tried the Revlon foundation in years, but I remember that was my go-to foundation for a few years. I would love to try that Fenty lip balm. I’ve been so good about not buying makeup this year though! Can’t wait for your empties post!
It’s so good isn’t it?! It definitely stands the test of time. Oooh it’s good to know that it used to be a favourite. From what I’ve tried so far, it’s amazing! Congrats on getting better at makeup spending, it can be hard, but once you get going it gets easier. Thank you!!xx
Love the revlon colourstay! Thought I usually get the oily/combo one! Need to get my hands on a Fenty lip balm! Xx

You know I used to be a huge fan of the Fit Me concealer when I was in high school, but I haven’t bought one since, I don’t know if I would love it as much! I might have to give it a try. Great post xx

I heard all the best things about the setting spray, and I really wanted to buy it while having a layover in Istanbul, but sadly the airport shop had none in stock. I’d also love to try the Fenty lip balm, it looks gorgeous and nourishing. <3
