The 2018 Holy Grails: Used Up Beauty Products Review

Empties #2
This post contains affiliate links which means I may receive a small commission, at no extra cost to you, if you make a purchase through a link.

The Archive Check: Look Who Remembers to Save Bottles!

I haven’t done an empties post in so long, mainly because I always forget to save the empty bottles. I finally managed to hoard a proper collection, so it’s time for another round-up.

Seriously this round up puts some of my others to shame! Looking at you Empties 6.

Let’s dive into these used up beauty products to see which viral formulas were actually worth using.

Too Faced | Hangover 3 in 1 Setting Spray

Too Faced Hangover setting spray

The Original Verdict: I feel like I need to stop talking about this, as it pops up everywhere on my blog! In all fairness, I love it. It ran out after about three months because I totally overuse it. You can use this to prime, set, and refresh, and the coconut water makes it incredibly refreshing. It’s been great for my dry skin,

If you’d like to hear more, I have a full review.

Repurchase? Already have!

Rimmel | Lasting Finish Foundation SPF 20

The Original Verdict: This was my absolute go-to foundation last summer; I used it pretty much everyday. I love full coverage, but my dry skin usually doesn’t. However, this contains a comfort serum, so it isn’t drying at all.

I have a full review, if you’d like to hear more.

Repurchase? I haven’t yet, but I really need to!

L’Oréal | Paradise Mascara

L'Oreal Lash Paradise mascara

The Original Verdict: When I first used this, I wasn’t a major fan, but after a week or two, it became much better. It’s like the formula needs to dry out just a tiny bit in the tube before it hits its stride! It doesn’t clump, and it seriously lengthens my short, straight lashes. The brush is very similar to Too Faced Better Than Sex, making it a perfect budget friendly alternative.

Repurchase? Yes.

Soap and Glory | Thick and Fast Mascara

Soap and Glory Thick and Fast mascara

The Original Verdict: I got this for Christmas in a gift set back in 2016, and even though it’s been empty for ages, it sat at the bottom of my mascara drawer for some unknown reason. I wouldn’t say I’m blown away by it; it’s great at lengthening, but it unfortunately transfers and smudges throughout the day.

Repurchase? No. It’s decent, but the daily transfer is too annoying.

TonyMoly | Magic Food Banana Sleeping Mask

Discontinued

The Original Verdict: If there’s something I talk about a lot on this blog, it’s this night mask! It has well and truly earned its place on my favourites page. I got this in December and it ran out in late June. After using this, my skin feels instantly hydrated and feels a lot better in the morning. Plus, if you love the sweet smell of bananas, then this is absolutely for you!

I have a full review, if you’d like to hear more.

Repurchase?: I would of loved to, but it has unfortunately been discontinued.

Revolution | Conceal & Define Concealer

Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer

The Original Verdict: There was a massive amount of hype around this when it was first released, as it was dubbed the ultimate budget dupe for Tarte Shape Tape. I have the shade C1, and I find it isn’t quite pale enough, so I’ll try the newer, lighter shade of C0.5 next time. I always set my concealers with powder to ensure they won’t crease, and this formula definitely needs to be set. It gives a great medium-to-full matte finish for just £5.

Repurchase? Once I’ve got through some of my other concealers.

Too Faced | Born This Way Foundation

Too Faced Born This Way foundation

The Original Verdict: This was on my wish list for absolutely ages, and I’m gutted I didn’t try it sooner. It’s pretty much everything I’ve been looking for in a foundation! The only downside is the luxury price tag, and I’ve got through the bottle pretty quickly. The added coconut water is amazing for hydration, which is exactly what my dry skin needs. It leaves a beautiful, subtle, natural glow with amazing medium-to-full coverage depending on how much you’ve applied.

Repurchase? Definitely!

Pixi | Glow Tonic

Pixi glow tonic

The Original Verdict: Pretty much everyone raves about this glycolic toner, and it’s clear to see why. At first, I thought £18 was a bit steep for a toner, but for the results, it’s completely worth it. I’ve noticed a massive improvement in my skin; it’s smoother and has a gorgeous glow.

Repurchase? Maybe in the future, but I want to try other toners first. (I actually repurchased this in 2026)

The Body Shop | Coconut Body Milk

Discontinued

The Original Verdict: Since I’ve recently done a full review on this, I won’t go into too much detail here. This is a very lightweight moisturiser, which absorbs quickly, so you aren’t left feeling sticky. It smells amazing, and the scent does linger for a little while which is good.

Repurchase?: I adored this, and I’m super sad that it’s gone.

The Final Verdict

Hitting the bottom of these jars and bottles is always the best feeling. From high street gems like Revolution and Rimmel to luxury splurges like Too Faced, 2018 was a seriously good year for reviewing used up beauty products that made it into my daily routines.

Let’s chat in the comments!

Have you managed to finish any skincare or makeup gems lately? Did you catch the hype for the Revolution concealer or Pixi Glow Tonic back in the day?

Thank you for reading!

Great list of empties. My Conceal and Define emptied really quickly. I have both C1 and C 0.5 and if I want brightening I need the lighter version. I love this concealer too. The Rimmel foundation use to be a favorite but I haven’t used it in awhile.

Thank you! It does seem to be one that goes quickly, but it is a little bottle. I’ll definitely have to look into the lighter one. It’s a great foundation!xx

My gosh I love the packaging of the banana mask, I must admit I’m really a bit too drawn in by packaging. And I personally love the thick and fast mascara as I find it’s one that doesn’t clump on my lids but still gives a good amount of volume

I loved this empties post! That coconut body milk is going on my list of products to try. I’ve never seen anything like it but it sounds like it will be great. I’ve used the Pixi toner before and really liked it. I also might try the Two Faced setting spray since in this summer heat my makeup doesn’t stay on all day. Thank you for the recommendations! x

Every time I tried to pick up the revolution concealer they didn’t have my shade as it was sold out, it’s definitely a sign of a good concealer! I’ve heard so many good things about the coverage but also loads of people talking about it creasing so definitely think you’re right with needing something to set it! This post has also reminded me that I need to pick up my Pixi glow tonic again, I’ve not had it in my routine for ages! xx

These are all such nice products! I need to try that L’oreal mascara. I have to agree, I also love it when my mascara gets just a touch drier; especially if it was a bit too wet to begin with. Have you tried the new Too Faced concealer? They say it is a Shape Tape dupe, so I am curious xx

I really wanna try the Rimmel foundation. Anything that has moisturizing things in it and works good for dry skin type I already love! Also I’m super lucky because my skin shade isn’t that hard to pick and pretty much every foundation range, no matter how big or small has my shade or something very very similar! <3

Real talk family dinner review!🤍 (Gifted/ invite) Real talk family dinner review!🤍
(Gifted/ invite)

We treated the kids to a meal out at weathervanemeirpark this weekend, and the family vibes were lovely. One of the biggest wins was that the staff brought over colouring pages and crayons for both kids without us even having to ask. Which is a lifesaver with two toddlers🥵

Noah and Ella were completely won over by the food. Noah cleared his plate of sausage, chips, and beans, and Ella was living her best life with pasta, corn on the cob, and chips (a toddler dream combo, let’s be real😂)

As for the adults, Jake loved The Big Melt burger. I ordered the Katsu Curry Feast, and we did have a little hiccup where my chicken looked a little pink, but I always judge a place by how they handle mistakes. The staff were absolutely brilliant, replaced it immediately, and even brought over a complimentary drink to apologise. Great customer service honestly makes all the difference.🫶🏻

It’s a super welcoming, stress free spot if you’re looking for somewhere to take the kids this weekend.

Swipe to the very end to see Ella making sure no ice cream got left behind😂

🩵 Father’s Day at @draytonmanor 🩵 Yesterday we he 🩵 Father’s Day at @draytonmanor 🩵

Yesterday we headed to Drayton Manor for the first time, and we absolutely loved it! 🚂

The highlights:

🎢 We managed to hit all the rides we wanted.

⏱️ Queue times were super manageable—the longest we waited was 30 minutes, which is the absolute limit with a 1 and 3-year-old! 😂

🥵 It was too hot to make it to the zoo this time, but with animal-loving toddlers, we will definitely be back to check it out. 🐯

Have you been to Drayton Manor before?

What’s your ultimate tip for taking toddlers to theme parks in the heat? 👇🏼
