Looking for my current daily staples?
This post is a fun archive of the products I was loving back in August 2020! My makeup routine and shopping habits have evolved quite a bit since then. To see my updated, current low-buy beauty capsule, head over to my simple everyday makeup routine.
When I published my July favourites, I knew I would be kicking myself about how close these two posts were going to be. Lo and behold, here I am a few weeks later kicking myself for not being more organised and getting this up sooner.
This particular month was also a little harder to put together because I was still consistently using and loving everything I featured the month prior, hence why this round up is short, sweet, and to the point.
Looking back at these August beauty favourites from 2020 a few years later is a total trip. Two of these massive viral hits have completely vanished from the shelves! Let’s dive into the flashback breakdown.
Charlotte Tilbury | Dancefloor Princess Lipstick
Discontinued

I don’t seem to feature lipsticks in my monthly roundups very often, but this one was definitely worth it. I wore this shade pretty much every day because the formula was so comfortable and the color was absolute perfection. Inspired by Kylie Minogue, Dancefloor Princess was described as a pop pink. It was very creamy and felt lovely and hydrating on the lips. While that meant it didn’t last all day, I always prefer comfort over longevity.
Fenty | Petal Poppin Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush
Contrary to my blog name, I’ve never actually been a massive blush person. That was until earlier this month when I decided to finally give cream formulas a go, and I haven’t looked back since. It feels like it’s very hard to go wrong with this Fenty blush because it applies very sheerly but builds up beautifully. This makes it absolutely perfect for novices like me. The shade Petal Poppin is a gorgeous medium pink with a subtle golden shimmer running throughout.
ColourPop | BFF Lippie Pencil
Note to self: I desperately need to invest in a pencil sharpener…
It had been a really long time since I consistently used a lip liner, but I completely fell in love with this formula. They are designed to be incredibly long-wearing and excellent at preventing your lipstick from feathering. BFF is a beautiful warm nude that goes with pretty much everything. I am yet to come across a nude lipstick shade that doesn’t look great paired with this.
Glow Recipe | Banana Soufflé Moisture Cream
Discontinued

Prediction: This will be coming to an empties post near you very soon!
I’ve dipped my toes into the K-Beauty market before, and this lightweight moisturiser was another total winner. The sweet banana scent was delicious, though definitely artificial and very strong. If you are sensitive to heavy fragrances in your skincare, this would not be for you. It absorbed quickly into the skin and made a fantastic smoothing base for makeup. It claimed to explicitly address dehydration, irritation, sensitivity, redness, and stressed-out skin.
The Low-Buy Reflection
Revisiting these old August beauty favourites really highlights the fast-paced nature of viral beauty trends. It feels like products hit the internet, go completely viral, and then vanish from production just a few years later. Embracing a low-buy mindset has made me appreciate the staples that actually stay on the market, rather than constantly chasing limited drops that disappear right when you fall in love with them.
Let’s chat in the comments!
Did you ever get a chance to try the Banana Soufflé cream or the Dancefloor Princess lipstick before they were vaulted? What were you loving throughout August?
Thank you for reading!

Oh that Charlotte Tilbury lipstick looks so great! My mum loves the formula, I believe she’s got the Jennifer one… and the packaging is stunning too. I definitely prefer a creamier formula too, just like you. I used to be all about mattes but I don’t find any lipstick lasts all day for me, especially not when you’ve just eaten, and I have to reapply during the day anyways. I much prefer a formula that fades nicely, which is usually a cream over a matte, so that I can reapply well without having crumbly lips! 😉
