I first saw this idea floating around on YouTube after seeing people like Andréa Matillano and Jessica Braun do it. I’m not too sure who did it first, but it has been around for a while from what I can see. The actual post is ten things, but that ended up being too long for a blog post, so I cut it down to six.
I thought it would be fun to look at my current spending habits and compare them to what I used to spend majority of my money on a few years ago. Let’s just say that things are completely different and this could have easily been 26 things instead of Six Things I No Longer Buy.
Anyway, let’s get into Six Things I No Longer Buy.
MAC Lipsticks
If you’d have told me in 2016 that in 2020 I would no longer be buying MAC lipsticks then I would not have believed you. I used to love buying new MAC lipsticks. Every time I visited a department store that had a MAC stand, I’d come away with a new shade. Saying that I still love the lipsticks I own. Faux is one of my all time favourites, but I have discovered so many other amazing formulas. I’m also put off by the price increase, as they now cost £17.50.
Urban Decay Naked Palettes
I used to be terrible for makeup collecting and that is what happened with the Urban Decay Naked Palettes. When the Cherry palette was released I instantly knew that it wasn’t for me. Pinks don’t suit me and none of the other palettes after that have caught my eye. I’m a lot pickier now on the palettes I add to my collection and to be honest I can’t remember the last palette I bought. Even though the original palette is still one of my all time favourite palettes.
Lush
This is a little extreme, as I do still buy from the Christmas collections. I just don’t shop there as often anymore. At one point I was doing Lush hauls and reviews constantly, so I dedicated an entire category to it. In all honesty I do miss writing about Lush, as they were one of my favourite posts to do, but the price increase has put me off. For example Intergalactic used to be £3.95 and it’s now £4.95. I used to think £3.95 was a lot, but £5 is a lot harder for me to justify.
Liquid Lipsticks
I have no idea why I even bought these in the first place to be honest with you. Me and liquid lipsticks do not get along; saying that I do quite like the Huda ones. Matte finishes just aren’t for me whether it’s a base product or a lipstick, as my skin is too dry. With all the prep in the world, the finish would not last for more than a couple of hours.
Face Palettes
I ended up decluttering most of my old face palettes because I couldn’t use all of the shades. In the beginning of my makeup obsession, if something was pretty I’d buy it. As long as I could use one of the shades then it would be fine, (terrible I know) but now I want to be able to use it all. Also I know what colours I like, and I don’t see the point in buying something when I can only get use out of a few of the options. It’s much easier to buy singles instead.
Nail Polish
Yes I know I just did a huge Lights Lacquer haul, but we’ll brush past that. I used to collect nail polish, as you’ll know if you saw my declutter, as boy that was a big one. If it was in the Barry M gelly range then I wanted it, as the formula is one of my favourites. Which meant I ended up with a lot of colours that I’d wear once and never again. I find myself only reaching for pinks, reds, white in the summer and dark colours for the colder months. Which means I don’t need a massive collection of blues and purples.
There we have it those are Six Things I No Longer Buy.
What is something that you don’t buy anymore?
Thank you for reading!
Thanks for sharing! I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t buy much from Lush anymore. There’s just so many other options out there that are more affordable.
It’s no problem, thank you for stopping by! I definitely agree with you, it’s a shame they hiked their prices up. But at least there are still affordable brands out there xx
Such a great post idea- i haven’t bought a Mac lipstick in ages too!
Thank you so much! They definitely don’t get as much hype as they used to xx
I was the same with nail polish! Used to collect and be obssessed with BarryM ones…haven’t bought one in ages!
Parie x
It definitely feels like something a lot of us went through. Barry M just had so many beautiful colours xx
Contour palettes are something I’d never buy these days & I was never into Lush! x
It’s just not worth buying something with shades in you can’t use. Haha, that probably saved you a lot of money with how their prices have been xx
Loved this post!! I also watch Jessica’s videos. I’m with you, I used to own all the naked palettes and now I just own the 3rd one and the mini basics one. those were like collectables for me for the longest time. I also got over liquid lipsticks because i personally found them rather drying. I still wear mac lipsticks but I agree, there are tons of other brands to choose from. Also I used to be OBSESSED with Lush. But the bath bombs ruined my tub! I love this post idea. I did one of everyday stuff (50 things i don’t buy) but I’d love to do a makeup version.

Thank you so much! I recently found her channel and I love it. I’m so glad it wasn’t just me that used to collect the Naked palettes, only keeping a few is a good idea. Yeah, I hate how drying some of them are. I still wear the MAC lipsticks I own, I just don’t buy any new ones at the speed I used to haha! Totally agree with you! It seemed like no matter how hard I scrubbed the tub some of the staining just wouldn’t come out. Oooh I’ll check it out, thank you for letting me know xx
I love nail polish but it’s true I tend to keep wearing my same favourites on repeat and I haven’t bought any new ones in a while either! The last ones I bought was last year when I was buying some for my sister she wanted for Christmas and I decided to get myself some too, haha! 🙂 Such an interesting post!
Hope that you had a lovely weekend 🙂
It can be hard to break the cycle and try new colours once you find what you like. Haha, I don’t blame you! Thank you so much, and thank you, I hope you did too xx
Oh I love this post idea! Yeah I have to agree, don’t think I’ll be buying anymore Mac lipsticks, they’ve been replaced now with charlotte Tilbury! I’m the same with Urban Decay too, I think there are better palettes out there xx

Thank you so much, I am so glad you like it! I definitely agree with you on that one. It’s a shame how some of these brands have fell off over the years xx
This was such an interesting post! I used to be obsessed with nail varnish and buy it all the time but then I suddenly decided I didn’t need hundreds of them and got rid of loads and only buy a new one if I think I’m going to get lots of use out of it. Lush is somewhere I always wanted to buy from but couldn’t justify the price and now that it’s gone up even more I definitely won’t be shopping there much, haha
Tash – A Girl with a View
I am so glad you think so, thank you! So glad it wasn’t just me who used to collect it, as I did exactly the same as you. Yeah the price increase is such a shame, as it was expensive before and now it’s just ridiculous xx
I loved this! I’m with you that I’m not a massive addict to beauty anymore and don’t buy things like Mac lipsticks or nail polishes. I remember a time when I’d spend so much money on it all and now I don’t really bother. Thanks for sharing xx

Thank you so much, I’m glad you liked it! It’s funny how our tastes and interests change isn’t it? It’s no problem, thank you for stopping by xx
Love this post! So interesting to see what you no longer buy and I can relate to a few of them too! I do still love Lush but only tend to buy from them at Christmas now. The prices are a bit ridiculous and paying £5 for a bath bomb that will be gone in minutes feels like a waste! I used to buy from them quite often but I just can’t justify it anymore xx
Tiffany x http://www.foodandotherloves.co.uk
I am glad you liked it, thank you! Me too, it’s too expensive to buy year round. It’s a shame really as I bet a lot of people can’t afford it anymore xx
Loved reading this! I rarely buy make up tbh. I never buy liquid lipsticks, they look absolutely horrible on me haha! I can’t remember the last time I bought anything from LUSH! xxx
I am so glad you enjoyed it! Liquid lipsticks aren’t for me either, a lot of them are too dry. They are too expensive nowadays xx
I love this post idea! I also no longer buy lush or any of the Naked range. I normally get gifted lush which I don’t mind but I never go into the shop anymore, I’d much rather support a local or smaller shop. As for the Naked range, I just feel like they’re so basic and theres so many other things I could spend my money on!
I am so glad you like it! So glad it isn’t just me who doesn’t buy those anymore. They have some really lovely gift sets. With you on that one. There’s so much choice now isn’t there?xx
Loved this blog post, it’s interesting to see how we fall out of love with brands over the years. I agree with Lush, I now only buy a couple of bath bombs once a year, as they just make the most amazing baths x

I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed it, thank you! It really is, it’s funny how tastes change over time. Me too, they’re more of a Christmas treat now, rather than a regular occurrence xx
Such a great idea for a post! I can’t remember the last time I bought a Naked palette either – I love and use the ones I already own, but the new one’s don’t seem to be anything special! I have to admit that I still buy Lush from time to time, but more of their skincare range rather than the classic bath bombs! x
Erin / Everything Erin
Thank you, I am glad to hear you think so. Me too, but the newer ones just don’t hit the mark how they used too. There’s too much competition nowadays. Oooh I need to look into their skincare, I used to love their masks xx
This is such a great post Hannah! I’ve stopped buying certain makeup items now, I used to buy loads of Bourjois lipsticks, I don’t anymore as I own every colour lipstick under the sun! x

Thank you so much, I am so glad you think so! Haha, at least you’ve got every angle covered!xx
oh this is a good share… I never really thought of this.
Thank you so much xx
Funny I had a similar experience with MAC lipsticks though it is the same with all lipsticks I am more in to stains and glosses now.

They were definitely the brand to own a few years back. I do love a good gloss too xx
I’ve stopped being so interested in nail polish so have stopped buying new ones this year. I also have a lot that I don’t even use … fab post!
It’s funny how our tastes change isn’t it? I was the same so had to declutter. Thank you so much xx
It’s the same for me with nail polish. I don’t buy them any longer.
xoxo

So glad it’s not just me xx
I definitely feel the same way about liquid lipsticks! I don’t gravitate towards them anymore. Thanks for sharing 🙂
So glad it isn’t just me! It’s no problem, thank you for stopping by xx
Thanks for sharing, I have stopped buying lipsticks years ago when I did not wear them any more, I think prices of products go up as the ingredients that they are made from go up, I’m also prepared to pay extra for cruelty free products 🙂
This was such an interesting post! The only liquid lipsticks I wear are the NYX soft matte lip creams but to be honest I wouldn’t really consider them as liquid lipsticks since the formula is so creamy. I definitely gravitate more towards lipsticks! I don’t really paint my nails anymore so it’s been ages since I’ve bought any new nail polishes. Such a fab post x
This was a great post and I found it really interesting. I don’t really buy from Lush either anymore! x

I’ve been pretty strict with myself when it came to most beauty/skincare products. I spent a lot of 2018-2019 buying so much product, that I don’t know what to do with myself. This year has been less of a year of buying those products, and more of a year of using them up! I’m quite proud with all the skincare products I’ve used up. I’ve also hit pan on lots of shadows this year. Great post Han xx

Hi Hannah, the only thing I still buy is nail polish but I don´t use it as much anymore either. With the urban decay palette I totally feel you! I only have the third, but it was a total waste. Even though I like the colors I actually don´t find the quality that good and on the rare occasions when I put on eyeshadow I like other ones more and only use the urban decay one because I feel like I should haha 🙂
Have a great start in the new week,
Tiziana

Relatable! I used to be such a collector of the Naked palettes, I used to own only the Naked original and Naked 2 until eind of 2016, then I picked up Naked 3 and Naked Smoky at the airport at a discount, I couldn’t resist. From then on I started collecting, so Naked Heat and Naked Cherry were going to be mine. I was put off by the Naked reloaded packaging and layout and also the shades to be fair, so I kind of broke the chain, but considering it didn’t match the other packaging (which I still don’t understand to this day, why did they make it cushioned fabric?) I didn’t see it as part of the “range”. Then Naked Honey came along and obviously that looked amazing and I had to buy it, but now with Naked Ultraviolet I have the same vibe, where it’s just not something I’ll wear, ever. I’ve become a lot more particular with the palettes I buy too so I’m glad to have broken the chain and it also made me declutter Naked 1 – 3, finally!
Also totally get you on the face palettes, I don’t often buy them but when I do, I just never reach for them!
